Pet Emergency Response

In the event of an apartment fire, major accident or other emergency, pet owners are treated and rushed to emergency healthcare facilities by emergency responders.  However, what happens to the pets? Who temporarily shelters the pet while the pet owner is being treated? What happens if the pet is injured?  What do people do with their pets in a time of crisis?

In conjunction with the City of Anacortes and the American Red Cross, the Charlie Randall Pet Foundation is currently developing a Household Pet Emergency Response Plan for Fidalgo Island.  Using many of the same resources that are developed for the Pet Disaster Plan, including the Pet Emergency Response Vehicle, the Charlie Randall Pet Foundation will be prepared to triage the pets at the site of the emergency, provide emergency transport to a pet healthcare facility if necessary, and assist in sheltering household pets during an emergency.
