Welcome to the Pet Registration page for our Pet Emergency Database. Registering your pets in our Pet Emergency Database will facilitate reuniting your rescued pets with you during an emergency, and will also help emergency responders to care for your pets during a rescue, if your pet is injured or while your pets are in a pet emergency evacuation shelter.
During Hurricane Katrina, over 70,000 pets were rescued and evacuated to pet emergency evacuation shelters. These pets were distributed to multiple pet shelters across several states during the evacuation period. However, there was no central information depository where pet owners could search to find their pets. As a result, most of these pets were never reunited with their owners.
We plan to solve this problem on Fidalgo Island with our Pet Emergency Database. This database is part of our website, and will be activated only during an emergency that involves pet evacuations or rescues. Pet owners will be able to search this database to learn if their pet has been rescued, the pet’s medical condition, and who to contact or where to go to recover their pet. Emergency responders will also use the information in this database to care for your pet during an emergency or evacuation, and to reunite you with your pet when your pet is rescued or when your lost pet is found.
Registration is free of charge, and you can update your registration information as often as you like. Please complete one complete registration for each pet that you would like to register. Give us as much information as you can. The more information you give us, and the more you keep the information updated, the better we can care for your pet in the case of an emergency or disaster .
